Jack Ellis - July 2022 - Market St

Jack Ellis is an artist from Providence, RI who relies heavily on emotions and pure expression to create. Working mostly with mixed media and acrylic, Jack’s larger scale cardboard paintings have been the main focus lately.

Most of Jack’s early work was created in an impressionist style as they looked to Monet for inspiration. “The style of painting itself was easy to copy. Afterwards I slowly found myself leaning toward surrealist painters after gaining confidence in painting. From there mental health struggles pushed me toward coping methods, which in turn landed me in the hospital for a day and out of patient care for a brief stint. I didn’t always create artwork seriously before that, it was something I could do to pass time more or less. However, after that time in my life my artwork shifted drastically, as did my mind and thinking on the world. It was a very sharp moment of clarity I found myself having, which in turn created a new template for my style. Within the past three years though I’ve felt very strongly that I need to create. My art keeps me here, and if I’m doing well it’s usually because I’ve been painting.”
