Melanie Ducharme + Barbara Swanson - Market St March/April 2023

Melanie Ducharme’s (she/her) work is a response to the world around her. The themes she works with are gender, identity, sexuality, memory, popular culture and/or political issues. Her imagery frequently uses symbols that are traditionally associated with being female. In addition, many of her pieces use the human body, particularly the female body, as a symbol.

Ducharme’s work is as much about a theme as it is about an exploration of color. Her work uses vibrant, sometimes contrasting colors. Each piece is an exploration of how color affects the overall tone of the work.

Melanie has been exhibiting her work since 2001. She is a former member of Gallery X, a cooperative art gallery in New Bedford, MA. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in graphic design and letterform from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and her Masters in Art Education from Rhode Island College.

Currently, she lives in Rhode Island working as a visual artist and as an art teacher.
Her work can be viewed @melducharme on Instagram.

Made in Warren. She is also exhibiting at the Coffee Depot for the month of March. The theme of her exhibition at the Collaborative, “Welcome to Warren” hopefully reflects the charm, beauty, and uniqueness of this tiny special town.
