Jill Makowski - February 2024
Jill is a healthcare professional that believes in having a balance of life. The right brain, appreciation of art, music and color balances the 40+ hour a week work week of math and science. She enjoys poetry, reading, cooking and baking as well as puzzles of any kind, when not working on her art. You will even find original poetry on the back of some select pieces.
Growing up on Long Island to parents that appreciated a well-rounded child, Jill has been exposed to art classes from an early age, drawing and painting, sculpture, and more. She grew up watching her mother practice stained glass, quilting and macrame while her father could fix or build anything; as young as two years old, Jill had a paint scraper and paintbrush in her hand. Their home was always full of art supplies and woodworking tools, and nothing was off-limits.
Jill brought that love of working with her hands into her adult life. Her mixed media collages are made of commercial and homemade papers dyed by hand, pastels, paint, pen and ink, and colored pencil. With little perfect edges in nature, few scissor cut edges are incorporated, mostly tearing and folding paper to get the desired effect. Images that serve as inspiration are often incorporated into the work. She centers her images around movement and balance and hopes you enjoy the lightness they aim to deliver; continually discovering new facets in their dynamic nature.
