My work examines the idea of recycling and reusing. I use aluminum beverage cans, repurposing the material to make my images. I worked for over 35 years in corporate design, and I like the idea that I am not only recycling the aluminum can itself, but also that I can reuse the graphic design work that went into the making of the cans. I like taking them from their intended purpose, as packaging for soda or beer, and giving them a new meaning.
Originally from Elkhart Indiana, I have lived in New England since 1986, working as an athletic footwear designer until retiring and moving to Warren last year.

Mixed-media illustrator with a BFA in Illustration ‘22 and MAT in Art Education ‘24. They take inspiration from folk art, outsider art, and horror. They use mixed media to inform their artworks; two pieces may have the same subject but look completely different because of the materials used. They incorporate media exploration, spontaneity, and human error into their works. This process is what brings them back to making art again and again.
A lifelong dabbler at visual art, I started taking it seriously around 2018. Since then, I’ve been in solo and group exhibits at the Collaborative, AS220, and the Hive RI, and done commission work including pet portraits, posters, album covers, and a journal cover design for the Caliber Artist Series (available for purchase at CVS).
My pictures usually start with a problem or question I’m trying to address (e.g., how big is a bobcat’s nose?), and then veer sideways. I’m heavily influenced by fairy tale and cartoon illustrators, especially Ivan Bilibin and Winsor McCay.
When not drawing I do music stuff: Solo recordings are available via Bandcamp and 75orLess Records, and I play fiddle, accordion, and tin whistle with sea shanty band Sharks Come Cruisin (we’ll be at Imago Gallery in Warren on September 28!).

Wow, it’s been over two years since I first joined The Collaborative and I am psyched to be having my third feature show as an Artist Collaborator!
