Interview with April 2023 Feature Artist Collaborator Tiffany Baillie
This month, we are delighted to be featuring the beautiful and evocative work of Artist Collaborator, Tiffany Baillie, at The Collaborative on Main!
Tiffany draws inspiration from nature, the celestial realm, and the beauty of the female form, exploring aspects of mental health and healing. We are thrilled she took time to talk art with us and reflect on her opening night!
What and who gives you artistic inspiration?
I feel like I gather inspiration from everything that surrounds me. Nature, people, even song lyrics will spark an idea. And at times inspiration can find you when you least expect it.
Why do you create?
I've never actually asked myself that. I feel like it has always been a part of who I am. Like second nature. I've realized more now than ever that my studio time has become my outlet. Working in healthcare, I spend a lot of time taking care of the needs of others. So, having a time and space to create has become more of a therapy session and a way of self care for my life.
How/why did you become involved with The Collaborative?
I came across The Collaborative by accident walking around Warren one day and I just happened to look into them on Instagram. I've become involved with them recently and from day one they have been nothing but accepting and supportive. The Collaborative is like an art family that helps you in your creative journey.
How was your opening night and do you have any takeaways from the experience that you'd like to share with us?
The Opening night was amazing! As a person who struggles with anxiety and self doubt, I was terrified to actually put myself out there and to show some of these paintings. But to hear how this mental health collection actually made an impact with some of the viewers was validation that I think any artist really strives for. To see the love and support that was shown made me feel blessed. If you ever have a doubt that your art doesn't matter, showcase your work. Just put it out there because you never know who your work is speaking to and sometimes it can be a voice to those who have no words. I am so grateful that The Collaborative gave me that opportunity.
What ideas or concepts do you hope to explore next?
My goal for the rest of 2023 is to continue to grow in my art practice and become more involved in the art community. I would love to explore and learn more creative techniques and materials. As well as continuing to add to the "Bloom" and "I'm Still Here" series.
