A little more about... Emilly Sousa

an inside look on our May Feature artist, Emilly Sousa.

Her show runs until May 25th. Be sure to swing by and take a look.

How did you first become interested in making art?

I have always been interested in art; I love dance, music, films, and works of art in museums. I became     interested in painting out of a need for something else in my life. My daughter is grown on her own and     has her own family. I picked up the paintbrush and started working on a piece, to combat my sever     depression. I decided on that day, I didn’t just want to go back to bed, I needed to do something, anything. I painted a self portrait of me in a black room.

What materials and techniques are essential to your process?

I don’t really have anything “essential” to my process, maybe some good music.

Where do you find inspiration? What concerns do you explore in your art?

I look for inspiration everywhere. I’m always looking at colors of everything, shapes of trees, the way     things move. I love music. I have pieces that are based off songs like, Foo Fighters “The Pretender”,  “Outside” by Stained and Lnikin Park “Somewhere I belong”.

which Piece is most important to you?

My favorite piece is the balance of time and space. It just draws me in every time I look at it, I can’t really explain it. I just enjoy that painting.

I love painting the human eye, I thought a show around it would be cool. These paintings were         created over the past few years, and I had accumulated so many.
