AN INSIDE LOOK ON this prolific painter and our FEATUREd ARTIST Collaborator, Joe Lytle.
His show runs until May 31st at 4 Market St.
Can you talk about the works you made for this show and which are most important to you?
All the pieces for this show were created in the last five months. I paint almost every day and try to make every painting be my best effort. I also anticipate that future paintings will continue to grow as my skills develop. The paintings represent a period of my life my experiences my relationships and emotions and each one is important to me. The process and quality of the time spent related to it motivates me and ads to my enjoyment of life. I want my art to be uplifting to others and ad to their visual experience
How has your creative process changed over time?
My work has become more intuitive. I do less planning and more painting. I don’t do studies or sketch compositions out. I apply texture and color on blank white canvas with the intent of opening up portals into a visionary word that can be developed with my brushes. Every inch has become more detailed. I try to create relationships with the inhabitants with each other and their environment. I work smaller for storage and exhibition reasons and I feel the paintings are at their best close up.
Who and what inspires you most?
My muse is my wife Mary. As the song said” Love will steer the stars” Life is good and my family and friends have been very supportive. Nature and its creatures cannot be forgotten. They always call out “Hey Paint me”. Viewing art of all types makes me want to create. I have been inspired by many artists too many to list. Max Ernst. Monet and Seurat all were influences on my style.
