Crankie Storytelling

Crankie Storytelling with The Lantern Sisters

crankie _web.jpg

The Lantern Sisters (Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen) will share a spectrum of Fahey's *crankie storytelling work of the last 10 years, ranging from the wilds of Northern Canada to the streets of Baltimore. These scrolls are intricately cut paper, accented by the occasional appearance of shadow puppets appearing through an illuminated scrolling screen. Fahey's crankies tell of myths from far off lands as well as hidden down home family secrets. One will have you swimming the depths of ancient oceans while the next will have you laughing in the face of death itself. Come join us on an intimate and magical journey inside the box!

*A crankie is a scroll of visual artwork in a box used to illustrate a story or song through performance.

Suggested Donation is $10. BYOB and arrive at 7 to insure a seat. Starts at 7:30 sharp.

Katherine Fahey, known as the Jane Appleseed of *Crankies, is a puppeteer who employs various crafts, combining papercutting, shadow puppetry, and storytelling. Gather round these illuminated silhouettes and these stories will draw you into other places in time, from the swamps of Louisiana to the wilds of the Arctic. Hear stories of ghosts, family secrets, survival, and love.

"Listening to Katherine Fahey recount personal memories, ghost stories, and a lovely tale about Baltimore’s arabbers while grouped around The Lantern Sisters’ gorgeously adorned crankie box, feels as intimate as huddling around a campfire with friends. " -Washington Post

"Katherine Fahey's beautiful intricate images and skillful storytelling kept the audience captivated", says Puppeteers of America
