OPENING RECEPTION
Kaitie Devlin
AT THE COLLABORATIVE LAB
Thursday, April 3rd from 6-8pm
508 Main Street, Warren
Kaitie Devlin (she/her) is an emerging artist originally from Southern Illinois, now residing in Providence, RI for nearly a decade. She studied Broadcast Journalism in her early 20s and after volunteer work exchange at a hostel on Smith Hill. She left in 2017 to Texas and Tennessee facing flows of challenges alongside rediscovering her passion for painting. She came back to Providence in 2018 and has been continuously pushing to grow in her skills as an artist. Her influences from the past are part of what she incorporates in small ways into her pieces. Specifically, Lee Krasner, Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, and Joan Mitchell to name a few. Devlin's work explores the emotional highs and lows of modern life, using layered textures and chaotic splatters to convey themes of disruption, frustration, transformation and positivity.
My artwork centers on abstract expressions that capture the dynamic interplay between resilience and hope. Through bold colors, intricate forms, and layered textures, I explore the continuous journey of seeking positivity in the face of life’s challenges. Each piece is a reflection of the determination to persevere, allowing the viewer to find their own narrative within the complexities of the abstract.

I am a student interested in painting and drawing. I have been practicing my art as a hobby since 2019 and I am constantly working to expand my skills through self-training and daily practice. It’s a way to express my thoughts and feelings through colors and lines. I have a great passion in developing my broad artistic skills to gain more experience through learning and participation. I aspire to display my work and communicate with the artist community.
Born in Syria, my family and I left my country in 2013 because of the war. We seek safety and stability in few countries, including Lebanon and Jordan. Now, I'm a senior at Nowell Academy in Providence and I also attend CCRI.

Hi!
My name is Zoe and I’m a growing artist who moved to Rhode Island in 2015. I go to Melville Elementary in Portsmouth. One day I did a really cool art project in school that involved drawing snowmen and it inspired me to keep drawing and building off of it. That began a passion for me. I paint and draw all sort of things I see and imagine, but I really love to draw people and landscapes. I am now actively working to get my dream of making a career with my art. I still look for art in the things around me. I do art for fun, but I would also like to be successful and attend RISD some day. This is my second ever art show. Thank you so much for your support!

THREAD PAINTING
My name is David Poyant, and I didn’t follow the traditional path to becoming an artist. I am a cobbler by trade, with a background in shoe repair and handcrafted orthotics. I worked in the trade for 25 years and then completed my professional career in retail. Handcrafted artistry comes in many forms and provided me multiple pathways in work and art throughout my life. As I approached retirement, I pondered next steps. Always one to be working with my hands, I remembered my mother sitting in her chair knitting, cross stitching, and embroidering. She was always stitching something. Therefore, with no formal training, I picked up my needles, embroidery threads, and a stretcher at a hobby shop and started sewing. But what do I sew? I began by finding photographers who would allow me to embroider their work and I haven’t stopped stitching since then. Each thread-paint embroidery is hand stitched on artist canvas using both 1 and 2 strands of embroidery thread and can take up to 60 hours to complete.
I have neither a college degree, nor any experience in advanced art or stitching classes. However, I have always had an eye for design and many experiences in my 68 years of life that inspired me to develop my artwork. I was not shy about showing my thread-paint embroidery pieces to anyone interested while I worked in retail. Most of my thread painting pieces were landscapes, trees, and coastal scenes. While working, I met the director of the board at the Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford, MA. She asked if I would be willing to do a thread painting of an animal for the fundraiser at the Zoo. The Red Panda was the first of what was to become a series of animals adorning the walls of the Zoo as well as other pieces used to support their fundraising efforts. This opened up other forums to display my pieces, such as fishing boats for the Fisherman’s Heritage Museum in New Bedford and donations for fundraisers in support of the American Cancer Society.

I first developed an interest in painting in 2019, though it took me a bit to get started, as I wasn’t sure if I would even be able to do it. I had made comic-books and drawings in my youth but never really considered myself to be a creator of any sort. When I was in 6th grade I had the good fortune to meet a local painter from Cape Cod named Sam Barber. He was the father of my best friend at the time and I spent a lot of time going over to their home. One day, Sam showed us his painting studio, which was located inside the top of a lighthouse, overlooking Hyannis Port. It was a great environment to be in and I don't doubt his influence has affected my work to some degree. I think in retrospect, I had the art bug in me, but never realized it until I was in my late 20’s. I eventually started painting in the fall of 2023 and I have enjoyed each moment with the painting process ever since. My favorite type of paintings to create would be impasto style paintings. I enjoy exploring the difference in textures I can work with for painting.

Hi. I’m Chris. I’m a photographer/actor/amateur meteorologist, born in Providence, raised in Swansea & currently residing in Boston. This exhibition is a mishmash of photos I’ve taken over the years; that drawer in your house full of knick-knacks that someday might come in handy. One common thread is that they all exist by approaching the world with curiosity rather than fear/apprehension. This planet is a big, beautiful place & these photos are a tapestry of shared moments with strangers I’ll never meet again, as well as memories with some of the most wonderful people I have ever met, co-existing. These are some of my favorite photos that I hope you like, too.

YOUTH ARTIST OPENING
Sophia Genereux
Nov. 14th from 6-8pm at 4 Market St. Warren RI
ARC{HIVE} GEnerously DONATEs the SNACK BOARD. THEY WILL BE OPEN FOR ADDITIONAL DRINKS AND SNACKS!
Hello, I’m a 14 year old artist. My art journey started back when I was 9. I had always been the “art kid” but I realized at some point that I really didn’t have any technical skill or even know how to draw a face properly. Thus, a rabbit hole of YouTube art videos ensued.
Flash forwarding to now, I’m in a much different place. I focused mainly on painting for this exhibition and trying to capture the essence of the reference. I really tried to push myself and paint subjects that I didn’t commonly do. This actually led me down some unexpected paths and made me realize that I really enjoy painting flowers, for instance. I hope you like my work :)

Feature Artist - Leah Keith
FEATURE ARTIST OPENING
Leah Keith
Friday Nov. 8th from 6-8pm at 4 Market St. Warren RI
AS ALWAYS, ARC{HIVE} WILL BE BE OPEN FOR DRINKS AND SNACKS
“I am different and different is good” – Leah Keith
Leah has been creating art and writing since she could talk and even before she could walk. She is a strong advocate for herself and others with different abilities. Her art is her way of expressing who she is. Leah’s preferred medium is painting with acrylic paint on canvas in free form and then spontaneously reciting a poem, which is transcribed on paper by her trusted support assistant, Stephen Alfano. Leah’s abstract paintings are created through a meditative process that leads to a new poem to complete the process. Over the years Leah has developed a technique which combines colors in one brush stroke. These swirls of color have dimension, which somehow keep their form and don’t turn to mud.
Leah is a serious thinker and wants to make a positive impact on her community. Through community activism she advocates and educates about disability awareness. Through her art she has found her place in society and through this medium she has also found herself. Leah has won many awards for her poetry, and she has served as the Poet Laureate for VSA Art of RI for the past 6 years. She has written and presented her poetry at many events, such as the 25th anniversary celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act at the Pawtucket Town Hall, Imago’s Poetry in The Wild event for the 2023 October Walkabout and at Salve Regina University. Leah was the keynote speaker for the 2021 Advocates in Action Conference. Leah attended the Bristol Community College theater program and performed and wrote for several productions, such as, Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, Matchsticks and Treasure Island. Leah has published a book called, I Am Leah, and is preparing to publish her second book, The Calling. Both books are collections of Leah’s art and poetry.
Through this current collection of painting and poetry Leah continues to explore her environment and how she relates to it. Her art gives her a way to grow and develop and connects her to her community in a unique way.
