David Gustafson, local to Providence, began his photography career five years ago when he picked up a camera and began capturing stunning images of birds in their natural environment. Since then, Dave, who is color blind, has been able to combine his love of the outdoors and nature with his passion for photography. It is light and color that drives Dave to capture images from his unique perspective. His goal in photography is to not only capture beautiful images, but also create a unique story in every viewer’s imagination.An avid surfer, Dave has lived in Rhode Island for the last 22 years, and was first drawn to RI for its beautiful coastline. Dave is an established Providence elementary teacher, and is known by his students for incorporating his love of nature, art, and music into his teaching style. When not behind the lens of a camera, Dave, who is a self-taught bass player, teaches guitar lessons to young students and plays original music with his band, Barn Burning.
