My name is Jack Ellis, I’m an artist from Providence RI who relies heavily on my emotions and pure expression to create. Most of my early work was created in an impressionist style as I looked to Monet for inspiration and the style of painting itself was easy to copy, afterwards I slowly found myself leaning toward surrealist painters after gaining confidence in painting. From there mental health struggles pushed me toward coping methods, which in turn landed me in the hospital for a day and out of patient care for a brief stint. I didn’t always create artwork seriously before that, it was something I could do to pass time more or less. However, after that time in my life my artwork shifted drastically, as did my mind and thinking on the world. It was a very sharp moment of clarity I found myself having, which in turn created a new template for my style. Within the past three years though I’ve felt very strongly that I need to create. My art keeps me here, and if I’m doing well it’s usually because I’ve been painting.
