Xerox Lithography with Deb Talbot
Xerox Lithography is a printmaking technique that uses a laser jet printout as print “plate,” as opposed to a stone slab or pronto plates. This leaves a lot of creativity to play within the print.
Lithography relies on the principle that water and oil don’t mix. The toner of the print will repel water. The non-image areas are treated with gum Arabic and are dissolved, while the image areas remain water-repelling. Oil based ink is then applied, adhering only to the water-repelling image. Dampened archival paper is placed onto the “plate” and then run through the printing press.
Each press yields only 1 print so be prepared to bring several of each image. Strong contrast black and white images are best. Bring lots of different images and copies of each.
Please also bring at least 5 pairs of disposable gloves or some good fitting playtex kitchen gloves.
Also bring a lunch or snack. Filtered water, tea and coffee are available.
Each student gets 1 piece of printmakers paper. More can be purchased: $10 for a 22x30 sheet of fine French rag printing paper.
